Experience Interfaith Discussion

Experience Interfaith Discussion

followed by a program of  small group discussions with moderated questions that you’ll want to explore regardless of your faith tradition or if you are not affiliated with a particular faith.

We’ve been asked by many attendees to have the event be longer so more discussion time would be possible and to consider doing a “Faith Fair” so one could ask more questions about particular Faith Traditions.  We are planning to do this!  So for the first time, this event will include a “Faith Fair”.

Download the flyer you see above and please help us pass the word and share it around the entire Valley.  Thank you!

Historical points about the Sikh Langar:

About 500 years ago, when the Sikh religion began in India, one of the social ills they sought to change was the caste system, where high caste people would never be associated with the people in lower castes.  To accomplish that, they served a free meal to every person after the worship services, with everyone taking off their shoes and sitting on the floor, with their being no division between members of different castes.  That is still done today.

Please wear clothes that will allow you to sit on the floor modestly and comfortably.  There will be tables and chairs for those who are not able to sit on the floor.  Shoes will be “valet” checked at the door as you check in for the event, and you’ll claim them right after dinner.

We thank the Sikh members who have donated and served this three course vegetarian “Langar” (Pronounced “Lungar”) meal.

Parking Options:

1.  Parking Garage due WEST of the Heritage Park on 5th Street and Monroe.  It’s more expensive, so carpooling is advised, but the walk is very short and convenient.  Entrance is on Monroe.

2.  Street Parking is difficult due to the change from 5:00 to 8:00 PM that the parking meters stay in effect.  They usually require money hourly, and the rate has gone way up.

2.  Light rail – for the closest connection:
Westbound travelers should get off at 3rd Street & Washington stop.
Eastbound travelers should get off at 3rd Street & Jefferson stop.
